Master Tu Tengyao - a recently growing phenomenon on European and American media and social platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. Master Tu Tengyao is already famous in the Martial Arts sector in China and his fame precedes him. Additionally, in the last weeks, his videos have been spreading across western martial arts fans with growing speed.
Before we skip to the main question, we invite you to give an objective look at one of many of his videos:
As we already said Master Tu Tengyao is not new across China. In fact, although his fame in the west seems to be just starting, back in China he has already served his country with his skills.
Not many might know that he has taught Wing Chun to flight attendants for an entire Airline and a College. Yes, you've heard that right.
Back in 2014, Tu Tengyao signed a contract with Southwest Airline College with the mission to transform flight attendants into "mini Bruce Lees".
The entire aircrew and also new employees had to undergo Tu Tangyao's School Wing Chun training.
If you'd like to see the video interview and read more about it, you can quickly check it out at the following link: Wing Chun on Airlines.
But that's not all, in 2015 Tu was given the responsibility to train an entire college filled with 20.000 students. Until then, China was mainly focused on Taekwondo for their Counter-terrorist training. However, seven years ago they decided on another strategy, and Tu was chosen to train the College attendants.
Students trained Wing Chun weekly under the advice of the College in order to strengthen their self-defence skills.
Tu's entry into the western scene was somehow predictable: bog enthusiasm, on one hand, great scepticism on the other.
The public has split in two different directions - from those who love him and his style up to people who can't wait for Xu Xiaodong challenges him.
On his Instagram page, you can find even more videos of training, drills, exercises, and some well-done choreographies.
The videos he uploads are mainly him training with his students. And of course, this fact also seems to be a primary argument of the more sceptical part of the audience. In fact, many have questioned his skills since there are only videos of him training in a safe school environment, not in the ring or in a real fight.
The point is that only time will tell the truth, as it always does. And from a very personal point of view, I'd say that Wing Chun has many other characters and "Masters" who do much worse and depict Wing Chun as a Tai Chi style or whatever.
If only one of the thousands of keyboard warriors would actually challenge him personally for a fight, instead of from behind their desktops - who knows? Maybe the truth would be already out there.
