Mandarin Motion Pictures, based in Hong Kong, has unveiled an exciting lineup of three action films at the Cannes market. These upcoming movies are expected to be an adrenaline rush, all featuring the internationally acclaimed martial arts superstar, Donnie Yen, in leading roles.
This week, the company is set to showcase three new films - 'Ip Man 5', 'Flash Point Resurgence', and 'Misjudgement' - to prospective buyers at the Marché. Yen, recently appearing in 'John Wick: Chapter 4', is globally recognized for his portrayal of the titular character, Ip Man, who was a real-life grandmaster of Wing Chun and also Bruce Lee's mentor. 'Ip Man 4: The Finale', the last entry in the series, was a massive hit, earning over $176.3 million worldwide following its 2019 release.
Despite speculations about his retirement from the martial arts scene, it appears that action legend Donnie Yen is ready to reprise his role as a Kung Fu master in 'Ip Man 5'. The 'Ip Man' series, which kicked off with a bang in 2008, tells the somewhat fact-based tale of Ip Kai-man, the revered grandmaster of the Wing Chun Kung Fu style. Master Ip holds a prominent place in the martial arts world, most notably for being the mentor of the iconic Bruce Lee, who has etched his name in history as one of the most famous martial artists, largely due to his extraordinary contributions to the film industry.
'Flash Point Resurgence' is a development from the 2007 film 'Flash Point', which starred both Yen and Louis Koo. While the directors for the upcoming projects remain undisclosed, it's noteworthy that all four 'Ip Man' films and 'Flash Point' were under the direction of Wilson Yip.
As for the third film, 'Misjudgement', it is co-financed by China's Huace Pictures.
