Right from the age of seven, Ip Chun was learning Wing Chun under the tutelage of his father, Ip Man, the creator of the discipline. The Chinese Communist Party compelled Ip Man to migrate to Hong Kong, while Ip Chun stayed behind in Foshan with his mother and younger brother to carry on with his studies at University. Later, due to the Cultural Revolution, Ip Chun and his sibling Ip Ching too moved to Hong Kong to be with their dad.
.
Ip devoted his time to the study of Chinese history, philosophy, music, poetry, and Buddhism. After finishing his studies in 1950, he chose to become an instructor. He also provided assistance to the regional Opera, for which he was rewarded with many awards. After relocating to Hong Kong, Ip became an accountant and reporter. In his free time, he continued to perfect Wing Chun with his father.
In 1967, Ip Chun opened his own school and began teaching, with some of his students still training with him to this day, such as Ho Kay Ho Kay. Ip Man died in December 1972, leaving his sons a video footage of Siu Nim Tao, Chum Kiu, and Muk Yan Jong.
