Wing Chun Vs Boxing: Real Fight

Wing Chun vs Boxing

A much-discussed topic to say the least. Wing Chun is considered much more of a martial art, differently from boxing, obviously. However, the truth might be a surprise to many people.

The point when it comes to Wing Chun is that it's not that easy to recognize somebody that's using it. If you think that somebody using Wing Chun would look like Donnie Yen interpreting Ip Man in the movie, you got it wrong my friend.

You see, Wing Chun is a very simple fighting science, there are no jaw-dropping moves or stunts, it's just about striking the best punch possible according to human biomechanics.

About the video

It really should be noted how this is the main topic of discussion when it comes to Wing Chun's weak or even failure points.
Indeed, it is a fact that Wing Chun's reputation isn't the best when it comes to real fighting or boxing.

But we must be objective. That's what is happening nowadays. As you know this martial art is divided into hundreds of styles and each praises its effectiveness.

Unfortunately, we have seen that some things just don't work out in real-life situations. But is it due to the strange evolution some Wing Chun schools have taken or does it say something about the style in general?

Martial Art and its practitioners are two different things

The title that you see over resumes the first main point. When you see a match between two different styles, how much do the skills of that single athlete speak about the martial art itself? Just consider it for a moment.

Wing Chun vs Boxing: Wing Chun Wins

Also, most importantly there's the human factor. We are human beings, and everyone with their own fears, thoughts, and problems. How much does a final exam resume years of studies?

It surely says something about the moment in which you took the exam: the stress and everything that comes with it. Especially if you are a beginner.
That can be said about any practitioner, Wing Chun or Boxing athlete, no difference.

Wing Chun and Boxing

The topic of Wing Chun vs Boxing always brings me to some specific Wing Chun masters who stayed with their "feet on the ground" concerning the Wing Chun System.

When it comes to Wing Chun, some great masters such as Wong Shun Leung or Leung Sheung for example, were one of the few Ip Man's best students. Useless to say that their method is as basic as possible.

Leung Sheung is way less known and way underrated. As Adam Willis says on his blog, "he's too important to overlook ". We suggest you read our article about him in case you still haven't.

On the other hand, Wong Shun Leung is a little bit more known, mainly because he was actually the one to teach Bruce Lee when was learning at Ip Man's School in Hong Kong.

As always, let us know what you think about it!

They should have found a boxer with the same height and reach and why was the boxer using large gloves vs. a guy with grappling gloves. In order to make a real match there should be no advantage between the opponents. A shorted opponent must always shorten the distance to make contact and the taller one will always pick him off as he comes in, go to a boxing gym and find someone his height, then post it.

Ok I’ll bite, Wing chun is a smart style, but like mentioned above, it’s Kung fu, not boxing, if you’re gonna fight a boxer, you sure as hell kick him, lol. Why would you not use an enemy’s weakness against them. It’ll be a cold day in hell when I box a boxer. Knock both those poofy high hands into one another and strait into the lower gait lol. Repeatedly if possible lol

Yes Wing Chun is great in deed, but that 'boxer' is not a boxer. That's a pathetic joker. His head is completely exposed, all the time. Even a child could punch him. He's a joke even when he throws a basic punch (not using shoulders etc) His hooks are terrible, he's catching flies, it's just impossible not to laugh :-)

That guy you picked as a boxer. Is no boxer, i think it some guy you pick off the streets. He keeps on walking right to in the other guy who is trained in Wing Chun wide open.As the boxer punched there is no defense for counter attack. The boxer is so short, if he was a real boxer, he would have use the pop & weave technique to cut the wing chun fighter to his size. But that what i think.
