Wing Chun Vs MMA - Xu Xiao Dong (MMA) vs Ding Hao (Wing Chun)

Reading time: 1 minute

Xu Xiao Dong, aka Mad Dog, is back with another fight, in this video we show you Xu Xiao Dong (MMA) vs Ding Hao (Wing Chun). This time he challenged Ding Hao, a Wing Chun fighter.

In the video Ding, who according to Taiwan News, claims to be a 4th generation descendant of Yip Man. He attacked Xu first with a flurry of seemingly ineffectual strikes. After a few seconds, Xu throw Ding to the ground with relative ease prompting the snappily-dressed referee to impose a break in the action.

Xu Xiao Dong is famous for challenging traditional chinese masters in real fights. He's intention seems to prove that traditional martial arts doesn't permit to compete with MMA fighters. We know that the difference stands in fighters and not in the arts, by the way he seems convinced to prove something to the martial arts community.

What do you think about it? Do you think that traditional martal arts are useless when compared with MMA professional fighters?

I don’t believe it matters which hammer you use to drive the nail, I’ve seen a nail driven with a man’s palm. What matters is the question “how important is it to you to drive the nail?” You fight like you practice, and this has been an issue for me with classmates - if you never hit the wall, how can you expect to knock it down? This is confidence shaken after witnessing force probably for the first time. He lost every bit of training he ever had with that first knee because of his hubris. His tan sao was weak and off center, as was his horse to begin with, which made his footwork sloppy and his gravity unstable. Again, fight like you practice. Adrenaline beat out years of training in that moment because he wasn’t ready for it. That’s just my observation anyway.

If you know several different art forms, then it can give you a greater diversity of arsenal in your attack and defence techniques; but ultimately it shouldn't matter to much. It comes down to your skill in whatever art you've trained in, your fighting spirit, will to win, controlled aggression, good defence as well as attack. speaking as a former 1st Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon-do and Tai Chi practitioner.

Mma is not the do all end all however Bruce Lee saw that traditional win chun or any kung fu for that matter had inherent faults He developed the best of the best in his own style jeet kune do and I agree from my time training and fighting on the street Mma is unstructured raw fightingich like street fighters but with a trained edge even then One must have trained and have the killer instinct to win consistently

I didn't see Xu Xiaodong knock on Sifu Tu Tengyao's door when Xu was prancing around SW China...

Well, watching this battle was like seeing a cheese grater against a block of cheddar! Xiao's MMA was punchy, while Ding's wing chun looked more like wing fun! Loved it!

Amazing fight! MMA definitely packs a punch but Wing Chun has style. Add a few roundhouse kicks, and we've got ourselves a real thriller. Then again, maybe some popcorn helps, too!

Great fight! Madd props to both fighters. But let's not forget it's not just the style, it's the person behind the punches! 🥊🥊 #WingChun #MMA

Wow, what a battle royale! Ding Hao's Wing Chun skills were impressive, but Xu Xiao Dong's MMA tactics came out tops. Fun fact: ducks do MMA too in ponds, just comical punches! 🦆😂
