7 Fastest Martial Artists in the World
Reading time: 9 minutes
In his time, Bruce Lee was regarded as the fastest martial artist in the world and the proof of that is there to be seen in many of his videos. He was, to put it lightly, superhuman.
But who is the fastest martial artist in the world right now? Well in this article we're about to identify the fastest martial artists on the planet. Let's get on with our list.
This video was uploaded by Brutal Tv on their official Youtube Channel. Don't forget to check them out.
The following article is a transcript of the video above.
#7 Benny the Jet
We all know him as Benny the Jet, but he was born Benny Urquidez. Benny started out as a non-contact Karate competitor, but he would later go on to pioneer full contact fighting in the U.S. after transitioning from point to full contact Karate in 1974.
Back in the day, the rules were ambiguous and there were clear-cut differences in fighting styles.
But Benny stood head and shoulders above his peers in those years, holding at the time the rare achievement of six world titles across five different weight divisions. Throughout his 27-year fighting career, he remained practically undefeated losing only once in a controversial Muay Thai bout. Benny was known as the Jet because of his incredible speed, which is largely why he was so dominant in his era.
#6 Tony Jaa
Tony Jaa is a well-known name within the martial arts film community. He was the star of one of the most iconic martial arts movies in history: Ong Bak Muay Thai Warrior. He also appeared in the 2015 Fast and Furious movie Furious 7, as well as SPL 2, A time for Consequences. Growing up, Tony Jaa was an ardent fan of Bruce Lee. He also closely followed Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and he would later reveal that his admiration for them inspired his decision to take up martial arts training.
Jaa would mimic Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li until he could reproduce their movements to perfection. As such, it was only normal that he would incorporate lots of speed into his martial arts style. Tony Jaa is an extremely fast athlete and he combines this with incredible athleticism, which makes him a formidable fighter, one that no one would want to mess with.
#5 DK Yoo
While there are questions about DK Yoo's actual fighting ability, the Youtube sensation continues to amass millions of views on Youtube. In fact, one of his videos which features him demonstrating 15 different martial arts styles that he claims to have mastered, has racked up over 4.5 million views. But say what you will about him, one thing that sure catches the eye in his demo videos is his speed. This guy is fast, there's no argument about this and if he could maintain this sort of speed in an actual fight, no doubt he would be a very difficult opponent to push aside.
DK Yoo claims to have 17 years of experience mastering a variety of martial arts, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, crucible Aikido, and Kung Fu. He is also the creator of the Warfare Combat System, a martial art style completely developed by him.
DK Yoo has got a lot of things going on for himself and, if his training videos and demo videos are anything to go, by then he certainly qualifies as one of the fastest martial artists right now.
#4 Jet Li
Jet Li needs no introduction. This superstar martial artist has featured in several successful martial arts blockbusters, beginning with Shaolin Temple. The 1982 movie is credited for opening the world to the iconic Shaolin temple in Henan province China. Then there was Hero, Fist of Legend, Once upon a Time in China, Lethal Weapon, Romeo must Die, Kiss of the Dragon, the Forbidden Kingdom, and The Expendables. Jet Li was only 8 years old when he began to practice Wushu.
He was coached by two of the most renowned Wushu coaches in China: Li Junfeng and Wu Bin. Li became a master of several Wushu styles, including the Northern Longfist style, the Tumbling Fist style, and Eight Trigram style amongst others, while also mastering Wushu's main weapons: the three-section Staff, the Broadsword, and the straight Sword. While Jet Li is a preacher of the harmony of body and mind, in the art of Wushu the Singaporean also demonstrates supreme speed and agility in the execution of his moves, as is evident in all of his movies. We just couldn't exclude such a legend from our list of the World's fastest martial artists.
#3 Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan is one of the most recognizable faces in the martial arts action film industry. Chan has been acting since the 60s, featuring in well over 150 films. Throughout his career, he is known for his slapstick acrobatic style, where he demonstrates his almost unrivaled speed and intensity, along with a touch of innovation and comedy. All of these have made him such a beloved figure both in China and Hollywood, which is why he is one of the very few actors who can boast of having a star on the Hong Kong avenue of stars and the Hollywood walk of fame.
Chan is famous for performing his own stunts throughout his entire movie career, and while that has come with occasional injuries here and there, it is how we know that beyond being an entertaining actor this dude is a superb martial artist.
Movies like The Young Master and Dragon Lord are testaments to Chan's superior martial arts skills, and of course his immense speed. Nope, the scenes you see Jackie Chan in were not fast-forwarded for special effects purposes. The dude is that fast, and that's why he earns the third spot on our list.
By the way, Jackie Chan holds a black belt in Hapkido, so no he's not someone you wanna mess with on the street.
This dude is the real deal, and that's the reason why he is on our list of the world's fastest martial artists.
#2 Donnie Yen
When you're a master of Tai Chi, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, Hapkido, Taekwondo, Karate, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wing Chun - did we also mention Wushu? We're not even exaggerating here. Donnie Yen is a master of all the martial arts we have just mentioned. His portrayal of Ip Man in the critically acclaimed 2008 film Ip Man is widely recognized for Donnie Yen's role in popularizing Wing Chun, leading to hundreds of people around the world turning up to learn the martial art. That's how influential this dude is.
But it also points to his superior martial arts skills. Watching Donnie Yen in full martial arts flow is a beautiful sight to behold. His coordination, movement, and lightning speed are virtually unmatched, except for the man who takes the top position on our list.
#1 Pavel Trusov
Pavel Trusov is the fastest martial artists in the world, just ask the Guinness world record organization. In June 2020 Trusov broke the world record for the number of full extension punches given in 60 seconds when he landed a mind-boggling 322 punches. He broke the same record again in November of the same year, extending the record to 334 full extension punches in a minute. Interestingly, that's not the only Guinness world record Trusov holds. That same November, he landed 919 full extension punches in just 3 minutes.
It's a statement of fact he is the fastest martial artist on the planet right now. Trusov grew up learning Kickboxing, becoming a two-time Russian Champion. Unfortunately, due to a series of injuries, Trusov was forced to end his career at the tender age of 20. However, he continues to practice the art of Kickboxing and currently serves as a coach in Russia.
